These three, pie-shaped drawers swing out from beneath Pilar's galley sink, semi-'Lazy-Susan' style. They were designed to make it easy for a dish-dryer, sitting on the settee across from the galley, to stow cups & glasses, soup bowls, and dinner plates, in that order. It was Bill's idea to make them swing out, rather than have bulkier sliding drawers when I pondered the problem of numerous dishes drying in a tiny sink. Too often on yachts, such items were kept further into small galleys, where the dishwasher/cook stood, the only one to have access for puttig them away.
Each copper plate is individually etched with a personally significant illustration. Sadly, the need to refinish the clear coating on these intaglio plates has worn away some of the too-shallowly etched lines of the drawings.
There is a barrel-bolt type latch on the inside of each drawer to keep them secure when sailing.
