My Niece Says...

"...suggestion, I think you should most definitely add a picture of yourself under the "about Diane" tab. Its critical. You are so beautiful and glowing and readers should be able to have a face for the artist."  Nieces are so wonderful.  As they grow older and see us less, they remember us through a gratifying prism of love.

Well, okay...this one is a little old but still expresses the essential me,

still at work doing what I love and know best.

"Talking to yourself can be useful. And writing means being overheard."
--Zadie Smith--

ahh...but as Thomas Mann said,

"Speech is civilization itself.
The word, even the most contradictory word, preserves contact
-- it is silence which isolates.

Nieces are our alter-egos come to life. They may view life through various prisms, but isn't it nice to know that we get slotted in the love prism? I am blessed with four nieces who all make me feel special....and not in a helmet wearing sort of way! Let's count our blessing together, eh?

Yes, it is lovely and a blessing to know we hold a special part of their lives; that it isn't a one-way relationship relegated to obligatory respect for elders. I am constantly in awe of all my nieces, nephews, and their offspring. I truly marvel at how astonishingly insightful, talented, and sensitive they all are.

I certainly wasn't when I was their ages! How did that happen? They seem like Miracles to me...perhaps that's why the word 'prism' came to mind; there's an atmosphere of rainbow-aura about them.

Much like your own Tula art, I'd like to add...thank you so much for taking the time to comment so I could discover your work! I am enjoying immensely the little bit I've had time to explore. The above photo and the work I am doing in it, with the addition of twenty years (sigh), is still a major preoccupation in my life, still leaving not as much time as I'd hoped to make for building this website and developing friendships...but that will come.
