This etching is not one of mine, it was created by my multi-gifted cousin, Vicki Gardner, before she turned her talents to writing poetry:

WHO’S AFRAID OF A LITTLE EMOTION

Yes... my dear friend
you would not be
nearly as lovely
without your loss

You would not see
the missing child
in other children
nor love them as well

The compassion you feel
and the patience you have
would not be so intense
oh.....what a loss for our world

Please do not be afraid
of what you feel
for that is the gift
you give that heals me

and I....along with others
are in need
the world is in need
of your heart felt emotions

"Talking to yourself can be useful. And writing means being overheard."
--Zadie Smith--

ahh...but as Thomas Mann said,

"Speech is civilization itself.
The word, even the most contradictory word, preserves contact
-- it is silence which isolates.
